Pale Challenge my piece that I did for the Toronto Bead Society 2009 bag of bead challenge. This photo is also the front cover of the 2010 charity calender. I will post pic of my other vessels soon. I like doing the vessels because I am not so limited as I am with jewelry. With jewelry i have to worry about wear and tare

Everyone that sees my Pale Challenge that is on the front cover of the 2010 Toronto Bead Society asks how long it took to make so this year I am going to document the process with my iPhone. So here is the test pieces and my tools and beads laid out to start. I am going to go with the triangle piece. Stay tuned to see how my mind works and come join me with my obsession/insanity.

A Christmas craft/working retail rant

Why do people decide to make a gift for Xmas when it 3 days to go and they have never made anything before. But for some reason they think how hard could it be? Well there is a reason there are classes and schools!!! And they never want to make something easy and get mad at the person that tells them that they may need to rethink it! Everyone wants it right now and never think that you need to practice and learn skills to achieve something of quality and that may take more then 5 minutes! And that is why it cost more then a couple of bucks at a craft show, which is where they saw it and think how hard could it be I could do it. Well you can but it will take more then a minute or two and you may have to start a bit simpler project. But no these people are geniuses and they are above everyone else that have worked hard and long for on mastering their craft.

Things are going to change

So am going to focus on writing the blog more (well I will actually write something) A lot of things have happened that have giving me a lot to think about. I am thinking of teaching so I am looking in to it. I am thinking of doing photography for other artists. I think I am not as threatening to some people as I have no desire to do more than that. I would never do more than that I want to make things not do photography. Rachel Nelson-Smith made a big impact on me when she came to the store in February. I realized that I can be someone that has my work in books, magazines and others would like to learn from me. The other thing that happened to me was I went to a lecture at the Galdstone put on by the Metal Arts Guild of Canada with Emmanuel Lopez – Motivatorman that got me to realize that I can be an artist even tough I am not “deep, significant, meaningful and or serious” What I learned that I shouldn’t care what box I fit in I should just make my own box and even if I never fit in with the “big time” fine art craft people than it doesn’t matter. What and who I am is fine. My goofy silly self is fine and what I create though it is not earth shattering it’s my passion and it can stand next to anyone. I don’t need to apologize for being me and creating what I want to. What I would like to do is get others like me to believe that that can be themselves and create something that is good just because they think it good and that is what matters.

I miss my cross stitch

I have been doing cross stitch to make my Christmas gifts this year. I did some of of Subversive Cross Stitch patterns, I did a Star wars pattern for my cousin Sarah.

But I really liked doing the Mini Pop cross stitch for Sherone. I would love to do a seres of the mini pop but they are not my designs they are Craig Robinson’s of Flip Flop Flying. I my start drawing with pixels to see what I come up with.
